Investing in the Future – A note from SIOR Foundation Trustee, Alfredo Gutierrez

The future of commercial real estate isn’t something we wait for, it’s something we invest in.

That belief was at the heart of SparrowHawk’s decision to partner with the SIOR Foundation to create the SIOR-SparrowHawk Foundation Excellence Award Endowment. Today, I’m especially proud to introduce one of the young professionals who brings that idea to life: Kindal Brown ’27, a Master of Real Estate student at Texas A&M University.

Kindal is exactly the kind of emerging professional we hoped this award would reach.

She is already building meaningful experience across commercial real estate development and finance, including work with Oldham Goodwin and Berkadia in Houston. Her ambition is to build a career in commercial real estate finance, with interests in capital markets, lending, and investment.

As CEO of SparrowHawk and a Trustee of the SIOR Foundation, I believe one of the most important investments we can make is expanding opportunities for talented women entering commercial real estate. Representation grows when opportunity grows—and opportunity often starts when someone opens a door, offers mentorship, makes an introduction, or simply says, “We believe you belong in this industry.”

That is what makes this award about much more than tuition.

It is about helping talented young professionals like Kindal develop the knowledge, relationships, confidence, and opportunities that can carry them from the classroom to the deal table—and, one day, to leadership across our industry.

Kindal shared that this scholarship has eased the financial burden of graduate school and given her greater freedom to focus on her education and professional development. Her thoughts on integrity, service, mentorship, and meaningful relationships are also a wonderful reflection of the values that SIOR represents.

If we want a stronger, more diverse, and more dynamic commercial real estate industry tomorrow, we have to invest in the people who will lead it today. Kindal gives us every reason to be optimistic about that future.
